Pirelli P Zero™ Trofeo

Bob Woodman Tires is proud to be the first to carry Pirelli’s new D.O.T. approved track tire - P Zero™ Trofeo.  P Zero™ Trofeo is an innovative, ultra-low profile road tire for racetrack driving on dry surfaces: it enhances the driving experience.  It imparts safety.  It reacts with precision on command.

P Zero™ Trofeo is a very well balanced D.O.T. approved track tire with better dry handling, higher speed capabilities, improved wet handling and a quieter ride.

It features an asymmetrical tread with two wide central ribs and large tread blocks.  The inner area has a greater groove density, and the outer area has a pattern derived from asphalt rally applications.  The rear tire has greater cornering stiffness, and the front tire benefits from a wider contact area.  P Zero™ Trofeo is not recommended for use in very wet track conditions.

It’s winning ways:

  • Tenacious grip
  • Outstanding cornering characteristics
  • Optimized footprint distribution
  • Exceptional lateral stiffness
  • Wider profile geometry
  • 100% free of highly aromatic oils
  • New tread compound and undertread materials
  • Improved tire-rim matching

Tire Set-up for Circuit Driving

With its stiff construction, P Zero™ Trofeo does not necessarily need extra pressure to deliver performance. In fact, it is designed to run at pressures around 30 PSI – finite adjustments depend on vehicle type.

Critical to understanding the set-up is to appreciate that this pressure is the “operating pressure” of the tire when it is fully warmed up to working temperature and that the difference in temperature between “hot” and “cold” tires can be very significant, typically 7 to 8 PSI.

Set-up procedure: Set the tire pressures when cold to approximately 6 PSI less than the required operating pressure. Drive the car on the circuit for 3 – 4 laps to bring the tires up to temperature, re-enter the pit lane and immediately reset the pressures to the required operating pressure. Continue to monitor and correct the “hot” pressures after each track session if that is possible.

Pirelli recommends the use of normal compressed air to inflate the tire, providing the above procedures are followed. Specialist gasses such as nitrogen are not required unless the air source suffers from excessive humidity contamination. Always us a high quality air pressure gauge for consistent results. The use of metal rather than rubber valve stems is recommended as these are more resistant to high temperature.

The track is your road, but roads are not racetracks.

Warning: P Zero™ Trofeo is D.O.T. approved for road use – affording drivers the freedom to dirve their P Zero™ Trofeo-fitted vehicle to the track if desired. Along the way, Pirelli recommends drivers follow all applicable driving laws and exercise common sense while behind the wheel. If driving on very wet surfaces where aquaplaning may occur, Pirelli advises prudent driving at reduced speed.
